So as of this weekend, we’re officially halfway through principal photography for the series.
While we’re a shoestring budget series and we’re very much hitting the ground running on this (not to leak too much info from the HiOP camp, but if I’m not working out camera angles and stuff on the day, I’ve written it about 2am that morning when I’m meant to be asleep), I’ve watched some of the stuff I’ve cut together and have come to a very wonderful realization:
It looks pretty damned good.
Like, don’t get me wrong. It doesn’t look anything like that other show with people living in a house (both a blessing and a curse. Though so long as I’m not calling any of my characters “Bim Tisley” I should be right), but I’m genuinely impressed with how things are looking. Even without any sort of fancy effects to make it look better, I’m happy with the results we’re getting. I’d like to think we’re actually trying to make this look as good as possible despite budget constraints, but I have a feeling we’re just fluking it
There was a saying that has stuck with me since the end of high school when it came to video production. “If it looks like crap going in, it’s going to look like crap going out”…. Or something like that (give me a break, it’s been seven years since I graduated). I generally try to keep this in mind when I’m filming pretty much anything (though obviously, with the video blogs I don’t have to go overboard. So long as shit’s in focus). Looks like that’s about the only thing I’ve taken from year 12 drama. Hah.
I also wanted to touch on this particular tweet from @HIOPseries. This is the estimated release date for episode one -going by the schedule we’ve had in place. Naturally, this comes with a “may be subject to change” caveat, but for now, that’s the date we’re aiming for. As always, stay posted for HiOP-related news and other tidbits

While we’re still in early days, thought I’d mention a rather swish little opportunity for you guys who would like no help out, but don’t know how.
Obviously, with Compound Fiasco being an indie outfit and unfortunately not my day job. We don’t have a lot of money to throw around. While ‘Hell is Other People’ was written with this in mind and that I went into this thinking we won’t have much of a budget outside of what’s in our own pockets, we still need a little extra help here and there
So the long as short of this is that we’re asking for donations from you, the generous public. No donation is too small, and you will be thanked.
What your donation will pay for:
Catering
Last-minute props or costume additions
Camera + mic batteries, SD Cards, repairs if something shits itself, etc.
Anything else to do with the series
What your donation will NOT pay for:
My insurmountable amount of debt
Michael’s cocaine addiction
Ozz’s World of Warcraft timecards
Ash’s paintball games
Corine’s anger management therapy
Hang on a minute, what if I don’t have any money to give you?
You can still help! Sign up to the Facebook page, where I might ask for assistance (be it filling in extra roles, sourcing props, etc.) from people.
What you will get in return
Warm fuzzies knowing you helped a small-time, no budget series come to fruition and an equally small-time, no-budget director achieve his goal of putting some pointless typing into Celtx onto the internet.
Your name in the credits on this very webpage, a thankyou note from the cast + crew and a small thankyou gift of some description.
Ok, I’m interested. Now what?
You can donate money by clicking on the button below (Paypal may charge us processing fees, so please keep that in mind when donating!)
If you wish to help out by sourcing props or doing stand in roles, join the ‘Hell is Other People’ facebook page
WTF, Ozz? Still black?
Yeeeeaaaah. Page is still black (aside from the brief period it was hot pink, and the giant 8mb background fiasco). it’ll probably be black a little longer, until someone decides to man up and decide how this thing should look.
…This will likely be Corine.
–Ozz, Spaceman and Webdev.
Blacky-black-black.
If you’re looking at this post on or a bit after the date listed above (I think), thinks are looking a bit black. Very black. I got sleepy looking at CSS files and photoshoping. Hopefully have proper background picture(s) and layout stuff tomorrow.
On the upside, think about how much energy I’m saving you!

Who tweets? We tweet.
Hey all,
Like any group of aspirational slackers worth their salt trying to round up promotion (or at least, me. Maybe Craeg), we’ve caved into peer pressure and have our own official Twitter account!
From here I’ll be posting updates on the series, as well as pictures from shoots/meetings and stuff. So follow us, stay tuned and keep checking back! Alternatively, we now have a twitter feed in our navigation sidebar courtesy of Ozz.
Also, we’ve uploaded a bunch of photos to our official Facebook page, for those interested.
That’s all for now. I may upload some footage from the reading the photos are from. Shall keep you all posted on that.
-Ruku
Site layout etc.
The Ruku has decided the drag me away from my Wii kicking and screaming so I can work a little nerdy magic on this page. So hopefully over the next week or so you’ll start to see a few changes here. If anything breaks, please direct your abuse to ozz@1kbm.net. Apparently if I do good the Ruku will let me out of this basement.

Second official readthrough
I had a meet and greet with Jordan, Michael and Brad (playing Peter, The Cleaner and Mark, respectively) on Saturday the 30th, which went extremely well, despite some interruptions. Will post footage of the process up on my Youtube account once I get a chance.
I’ve also been in talks with various musicians/bands to get some music for us in addition to what Luis is providing for us.
In the meantime, we’re still looking for someone to play the final male role. If you’re remotely interested PLEASE let us know!
For those interested
Since everything kicked off, I’ve been writing on my Livejournal about the writing and pre-production process of “Hell is Other People”
You can follow it here
Tossing up whether to put it on here or not, but I’ll see how I go.
Also, a script reading is happening this weekend with the people potentially playing Mark, Peter and The Cleaner. Details on Facebook Sent it to the group.
Hello and Welcome!
Welcome to the official website for ‘Hell is Other People’
We’re still tinkering with things at the moment, but check back often! Something awesome might be here
